Is Schooling Equitable?

 The short and simple answer to this question is no. In my opinion, I do not feel like schooling is equitable just because we have a very large achievement gap and a disparity of academic performance between a  prominent groups of students. These groups of students who are mostly getting affected are those who come from a low income families, minority students and students of color. If the achievement gap was not so wide and getting larger I would have a change in opinion on whether schooling is equitable. The only way that the achievement gap were to close or be more narrow is if ALL students were to be provided with the adequate amount of resources and support they need in order to fully reach success, then in that case schooling we be equitable.  I feel like several people often get the two terms equality and equity confused when they are both two completely different things. Stories: Whose are told and whose remain in the margins?

 In order to fully understand and answer this question, I believe that it is important to first cover what marginalization is and when it occurs. Marginalization is when someone feels like they are not valued, things they are able to access and opportunities given are very limited and hard to reach and overall struggle to get equal with certain things. Groups who are more prone to being marginalized are minority groups, females, people of color and groups who pertain to the lgbt community.  These groups are more likely to struggle, have more barriers and overall have to work harder in doing many things and will often get discriminated along the way. Marginalization can be seen or done everywhere, some of the most common places include work, school, social media and even when out in public.
